Dutch Committee Nanodialogue Installed

The Dutch ministry of Economic Affairs officially installed the national Committee Societal Dialogue Nanotechnology, and gave them the task to organize a national dialogue on nanotechnology until 31 December 2010. The committee consists of nine members: Dr Peter Nijkamp (president), (ms) Prof. Dr Inez de Beaufort, Prof Dr Paul Borm, Dr Eppo Bruins, Prof Dr Wiebe Bijker, Ir. G. van Harten, (ms) drs Godelieve van Heteren, Dr R. Pieterman, (ms) Prof Dr Sylvia Speller.

The Committee's tasks are twofold:

  • To develop a public agenda for nanotechnology in discussions with relevant stakeholder groups in the Dutch society;
  • Based on this agenda, to stimulate and facilitate societal dialogue focusing on ethical and societal aspects of nanotechnology and its applications. The committee's activities should be distinct from other relevant ongoing activities and discussions, and be distinct from other relevant decision making processes in the Dutch national government involving representatives of groups in the Dutch society.

The commission should report a public agenda to the minister before 15 September 2009 and publish this agenda. Before 15 May 2010, the commission should submit an interim report to the minister and before 1 January 2011, a final report.
